BUFFALO, N.Y. — There was lots of excitement at the Buffalo Democratic Committee Headquarters in Ellicott Square, as people learned President Barack Obama had been re-elected, winning many key swing states.

"The president needs four more years. We're not where we want to be but he deserves a chance to take us through four more years," said Erie County Democratic Committee Chairman Jeremy Zellner.

“We've seen the economy turning around not only locally, but nationally and I think you are going to continue to see that now that the president has been re-elected," said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

However, at Republican headquarters at the Avant Hotel, there was a different response to news of Mitt Romney’s defeat.

"This is a very unfortunate loss. I feel that this is country is going to go into some sort of economic caste in the next six months,” said former gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino.

The president easily won New York State and according to the Associated Press, about seven in 10 New Yorkers said Obama’s response to Hurricane Sandy was a factor in their vote. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
