JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Local food pantries are looking for help this holiday season, like the Salvation Army in Jamestown, which has seen an 11 percent rise in need this fall.

Officials say even the Food Bank of Western New York, where they buy most of their food, has seen and increase in demand this year.

The Salvation Army says priority number one is making sure children and their families have healthy food to eat during tough times.

"We need to get people over the hump. I do believe that things will turn around eventually. I'm not sure we've hit rock bottom yet but we have to be pretty close," said Major Doug Hart, Salvation Army.

Hart says the best way people can help out this holiday season is to donate to the red kettle campaign. He says that money stays in the community where it's raised. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
