The two-year-old Niagara Falls girl shot Tuesday in a drive-by shooting is out of surgery and now recovering. YNN’s Katie Morse is outside Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, where she spoke with J’Raeona Moore’s mother about how her daughter is doing.

It is a mother’s worst nightmare. Running up to the car your child was sitting in - and finding out your two-year-old had been shot. It’s a nightmare that became a reality for ShaRonda Platt, and as her daughter continues to recover in Women and Children’s Hospital, she’s sharing her story.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — ”I don't even know where to begin. Shes my baby! That's my baby!”

ShaRonda Platt couldn't conceal her emotions during an afternoon press conference to share the latest on her little girl.

It was around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when Platt came outside the grocery store she had been in to find her two-year-old daughter, J'Raeona Moore shot in the back seat of the car.

“She was still conscious, she was on her knees with the seatbelt over her knees, so I undid the seatbelt and pulled her to the front and I held her and told him to get me to the hospital as quick as possible with my baby.”

Little J’Raeona had been shot in the face. Luckily, the bullets missed her brain. Doctors performed emergency surgery, and say her prognosis is good, although there could be long term effects.

Platt says she doesn't know why her baby was shot, or if the man she was with was the actual shooting target.

"I don't have any idea why this happened. I mean I can go in to say why some people say that it happened but still its hearsay. As a parent, as my daughter’s mother, no I don't know why this happened.”

Police are still searching for the shooter, and say they're looking for a silver sedan that may have been involved.

Platt says whoever is responsible needs to come forward.

"I just want whoever did this to my child to stand up and be a man. You did what you did, now you have to do the time for this. I don't know who you are, but I will see you again face to face."

As the search for the shooter continues, J'Raeona remains in the hospital, and her mother says she does squeeze her hand when she's talking to her. The family remains hopeful that she’ll make a full recovery.
