One Western New Yorker is working to get his invention off the ground. YNN's Kate McGowan sat down with the inventor of the "Camera Clipper", who explains how it's taking the art of photography and making it easier to capture memories anytime, anywhere.
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- "We all have great ideas everyday. Getting them to market is obviously a long and difficult process lined with lots of challenges," said Gerard Gooch.
Gooch, of Buffalo, said it all started with a simple idea, several years ago.
"Started to notice that other people had the same need I did."
After putting his initial idea to paper, and making several prototypes, Gooch was able to team up with a company willing to market the invention.
"The 'Camera Clipper' was born," he exclaimed.
'Camera Clipper' is a device that makes it possible to capture a moment or photo op, anytime, anywhere.
Basically it's a hand sized tripod, which can clip to any sturdy surface and has a bendable arm. And what you do is attach your camera to it.
Gooch explained, "It's really more for the modern day photographer who's armed with a digital camera or cellphone, that doesn't have the luxury of carrying around some bulky gear. You can't really whip a tripod out of your purse."
And it's completely hands free.
The clipper is even good for cell phone users. Gooch said they can take their iPhone or Android, for example and simply slide it right in the adjuster and it holds it in place.
"I really invented it out of necessity, so that I could capture memories that were really important to me."
The funding for the clipper came from donations and monetary support from his family and friends. It comes in all different colors, and is lightweight.
It's currently only available at this site here but Gooch hopes to have it in stores in the coming months.
"It's all about getting the passion behind it and making sure it's a good viable idea at the end of the day when you get it to market."
