NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — A portion of Lewiston Road in Niagara Falls finally reopened Friday after being shut down for years.

City officials cut the ribbon and moved barriers that shut down the portion of Lewiston Road that connects the North end of the city to the Main Street business district. The road closed in 2009 when work began to install new rail bridges as part of phase two on the city's new train station.

Friday work was officially complete and cars were finally allowed to roll through.

"We've been almost four years without a road in front of my business and a testament to my business we're still here to survive," local business owner Steve Mayes said.

The federally funded project cost around $4 million.

Additional work on the north end of Lewiston Road should be done by June. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
