It's now one of the deadliest at a school in our nation's history, and with some of the youngest victims.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's every parent's worst nightmare.

"It's really scary, really scary," Darren Smith, a parent, told YNN.

The father of three was shocked to hear the news of a gunman killing 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. The massacre is now one of the deadliest at a school in our nation's history, and with some of the youngest victims.

"I'm outraged, I'm outraged. I'm uh, it's like everyday there's something new," Smith said.

Authorities in Connecticut are working to piece together the details. Aerial shots show police running towards the school. Reports from young children describe hiding in closets and seeing blood stains on the floor of their halls.

"Sending my little ones to school and having to worry about someone coming and taking their lives away. It's heartbreaking. It really is," Marlo Smith said, as she picked up her daughter and niece from a Buffalo school.

The tragedy drew concern for parents thinking about the safety of their own children.

"These school are soft targets, you know. They're soft targets, so anybody could come up there with a gun or start trouble," Darren Smith said.

President Obama was shaken along with people from across the nation, all mourning the lost, innocent lives at the hands of a killer.

"They had their entire lives ahead of them... birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own," President Obama said, while wiping away tears.

With the start of the weekend, now parents have some time to come to grips on how something like this can happen before sending their kids to school come Monday. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
