JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Officials in Jamestown and Chautauqua County continue to discuss an ongoing study by the Center for Governmental Research to consolidate the both law enforcement agencies.

CGR has come up with two plans that basically dissolve the Jamestown Police Department and contract the County Sheriff's Department for police protection in the city.

Funding for the plans was allocated at a Jamestown city council meeting Monday night. Preliminary numbers show the city saving up to $7 million over five years.

"Obviously, all of the numbers on both approaches need to be studied, the legalities of it, the contractual implications, the statutory implications at the state level. All of that needs to be factored in each one of those implementation models. That's what will be done over course of the next several months," said Sam Teresi, (D), Jamestown mayor.

Another public steering committee meeting will be held on Wednesday at 11 am in the Police Training room of Jamestown City hall.
