The Sheehan Health Network had a rough ending to its tenure serving Western New York. Now, the new owner of its building is determined to create a solid foundation for the facility before it reopens its doors. YNN's Kaitlyn Lionti tells us about McGuire Development Company's plans to make it a centerpiece in the community.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- When you walk into the Sheehan building, you see areas like the dental clinic that are practically ready to go.

But McGuire Development Company, which closed on the property last month, says they're not in a rush with the project.

"We are very anxious to get both the dental clinic and the medical clinic up and operational and serving the people of this community. But more importantly, we want to make sure that we're being very intelligent," said Danielle Shainbrown, vice president at McGuire Development.

Shainbrown says McGuire wants the facility to be a force in the life sciences world - and a partner in education and healthcare.

"We want every tenant to provide at least two of the following four pillars: clinical delivery of medical or dental services, education and workforce training, workforce development and placement and research and development," said Shainbrown, "We need to be training the technicians and the nursing assistants and the support for those professionals that we're investing so much money in on the medical campus."

As for who the tenants will be, Shainbrown says they have a lot of very interested parties that participate in weekly meetings discussing the building.

"We're also working on the actual deal to bring tenancies together and get at least the medical and dental clinics open in the very near future," she said. "For the most part, it's ready to go, we just need the fit to be right so that's what we're working on."

Dr. Raul Vazquez of the Greater Buffalo United Accountable Healthcare Network says pending a deal with McGuire, they have two to three doctors ready to come in.

"We've been with this institution for many years and there's not a lot of doctors that really want to come into these areas, and I think we're excited that this is going to happen," said Vazquez.

Shainbrown says the building itself needs work, from the exterior to the roof and windows and some cosmetic changes to the upper floors.

But they're not working on a deadline - she says their focus is making it a success.

"We really want it to be an extraordinary part of Buffalo's development," said Shainbrown.
