BUFFALO, N.Y- Super Bowl Sunday is not just about the game anymore. It's also about the food.
"Waking up on Monday morning, not feeling so good because of what you ate, is not fun," Globe Market Manager, Briana Burgeson told YNN.
According to the Calorie Control Council, Americans eat about 30 million pounds of snacks during the big game. That averages out to about 12 hundred calories and 50 grams of fat per person. It's a full day's worth of food in a few hours.
"A lot of people just aimlessly eat. They don't pay attention to how much they're consuming," Registered Dietician, Jacqui Almonte said.
Health experts say there are ways to feast without the fat. Quick tips include using a plate instead of picking from a pile of food, looking for low calorie beer, and choosing baked dishes over fried. As for pizza, one of the biggest stars of the day, experts say don't call for delivery.
"You could definitely do homemade pizzas with whole wheat crust, do a little bit of a thinner crust. That way you're not getting as many carbohydrates and add a ton of veggies," Almonte recommends.
If you're not a top chef in the kitchen, dieticians say don't sweat the side dishes. Many restaurants and grocery stores are also thinking healthy for game day.
"We have hummus garlic or red pepper, we do baba ghanoush. I believe he just does the carrots, zucchini on the side. Cucumbers, a lot of veggies, toasted baguette," Burgeson suggested.
So while you watch the big game, there is a way to also watch your waistline.
